Jo Ann's New Kitchen

Jo Ann was ready to have a kitchen designed and built.  We met Jo Ann and her husband at a local home show.  The previous kitchen had been more useful when she had kids at home and meals were served in the eat-in portion of the kitchen.  The other half of the divided kitchen served as the work-side.

The galley kitchen was narrow and condensed.  The room itself provided ample space but only to the creative eye.  Jo Ann contracted with Quinta to produce a new plan. (Above, left and below)

The new plan provided by Quinta Contractors, LLC would involve gutting the kitchen of all it’s cabinets, counter tops, flooring, and appliances.  Removing the two sets of fir downs (area of short wall above cabinets) was necessary to open the room up and allow for the new cabinetry.  The entire center console housing the refrigerator, range, and cabinets was eliminated from the new design.

A new set of cabinets was installed perpendicular to the previous center bank with two sets of pan drawers.  The counter top placed on this new island also included a  custom constructed high rise bar top to allow for the option of bar stool seating in the kitchen.  New cabinets were installed on the three outer walls.  These cabinets were a full overlay design with a medium wood tone.  The inset panels on the doors and all end panels were all bead board adding a distinctive look.

Counter tops were constructed of six inch tile and topped with a back splash of the same tile.  The matching sink rail used for the trim on these tops gave it all a nice, sculpted finish.   A custom faux paint job requiring several coats was applied to the walls.

Lighting was another big change in this project.  Square florescent lights were installed in the ceiling, three pendent lights were hung over the bar, and lights were placed in the upper glass cabinets.  White appliances were chosen to add some contrast to the earth tones in the room.  A free-floating laminate was selected for the flooring.
