Paula’s Master Bathroom

Paula and husband Jeff had already used Quinta Contractors, LLC for projects such as vinyl replacement windows and replacing a storm door.  This time the request was a bit larger, gutting the master bathroom and starting the design with a clean slate.  Paula contacted Quinta and requested that Bryan design her new bathroom.

Custom Built-in Cabinets

Custom Built-in Cabinets

The ideas would need to be bold and striking in order to transform the outdated bathroom.  The existing bathroom housed what we in the business refer to as a “cave shower”, a small and dark 3 foot by 3 foot square shower with a fir down which created a lowered ceiling.

Previous Shower

Previous Shower

These showers often become laden with mold and mildew.  The cause of these unwanted guest are two fold: the shower pan (a thick rubberized liner) under the shower floor tile begins to leak and the second problem is the lack of natural light and air ventilation for the shower stall.  The lack of room to move freely in these types showers is also a constant source of frustration for their owners.  Once the shower pan has failed repair is not really an option; replacement is the only fix for a damaged shower pan.

Bryan’s design would require removing a non load bearing wall separating the double vanity area from the bath tub, shower, and commode section.   The floral wallpaper was a constant reminder of days gone by (most of our remodels do not include wallpaper as a part of the design).  The small glossy white floor tiles required an abundance of grout lines.  The bathroom actually was host to a stand alone shower and a bath tub/ shower combo.   Bryan and homeowner, Paula, were in agreement the bathroom lacked adequate storage and had some wasted space that needed to be reclaimed.

So bring on the creativity, please!

Once the wall was removed from the foot print or flooring plan, the designer had a new and empty canvass for the design.  Eliminating the stand up shower was a must.  The tub/ shower combo wasn’t needed or useful any longer either.  Bryan created a concept board revealing the new foot print (including a 4 foot by 6 foot shower with frameless glass walls), the new vanity, granite counter tops and shower seat, sink and shower faucets, wall coverings, lighting fixtures, floor and shower floor tile, the addition of crown molding and custom cabinets.  Paula was elated to see the possibilities for her new bath.

After some minor changes to the over all design concept, the demolition began.  Out with the old and in with the new.  Paula’s budget and expectationswere ultimately satisfied with another custom renovation performed by the crews at Quinta Contractors, LLC.  She  was pleased to find herself in a new bathroom which met her needs and definitely provided her a bathroom to be proud of for years to come.

Lee Ann’s Bathroom

Lee Ann had a master bathroom truly in need of some remodeling.  She contacted Quinta Contractors, LLC and setup an appointment for a free consultation with Bryan.  The floor was dated by the glossy hexagon ceramic tile which had been in place since its construction some 13 years earlier.  The bathroom had more pressing issues as well.  The shower stall was small and cramped; it also suffered from a persistent mildew problem.  Repeated attempts to thoroughly clean the joints in the man-made marble walls were had no lasting effect.  The mildew, most likely caused by a failed shower pan, simply returned in short order.

The larger corner jacuzzi tub had stopped working and seemed to dwarf the smaller bathroom all the more.  Lee Ann needed some solutions.  The cabinets and counter top were in good shape and did not need replacing.

Lee Ann's New Tile Floor

The conclusion was reached to remove the flooring, bath tub and shower.  Once the demolition was completed, the rebuild could began.  The new plan included a six foot (1 foot longer than a standard bath tub) fiberglass jacuzzi tub  with a removable fiberglass front panel.  A shower was combined with the tub in order to create a closet opening with built-in shelves.  Storage had always been a short fall in this bathroom.

Lee Ann's Bathroom After (3)

Brandon was able to fabricate a wrought iron shower curtain rod as part of the rebuilding effort.  A 12″ ceramic tile was selected for the new shower walls with a matching bullnose and the floor covering.  Once the toilet was reseated and a free coat of paint had been applied to all the walls and trim, Lee Ann was free to enjoy a wonderfully updated bathroom more suited to her needs.

Carroll’s Remodel

New Master Bath

Carroll and Mell were focused on a bathroom remodel when we met them at a local Memphis Area home show.  They had some ideas for a new bath but needed someone like the pros at Quinta to help them flesh out those ideas.  The foot print was to stay the same and the cabinets were found to be in great condition.

New Master Bath Shower

So, it was determined to remove the existing flooring, counter tops, shower, and bath tub.  The versailles pattern of the new tumbled Travertine flooring provided a generous break from the grout patterns found in the new shower.  Six inch Travertine tiles were selected to line the shower walls and a beautiful contrasting border was added and carried over behind the new whirlpool fiberglass, corner tub for a backsplash.

Master Bath

Black solid surface countertops with white oval sinks provided the necessary contrasting color to the nuetral tone of the cabinets.  Brushed nickel trim was selected for the shower door trim and plumbing fixtures.  Visits to the local home improvement stores left Carol wanting a custom designed mirrors to suit her taste, which Brandon was more than happy to fabricate in his shop.  That is afterall the way we do business at Quinta; we solve problems.

New Counter Tops and Backsplashes

Master Bedroom Sitting Area

Pleasantly satisfied with for the new look in the bathroom provided by Quinta Contractors, LLC,  this couple decided to move forward with some addtional remodeling.  Carroll had long since grown tired of the flooring in the den, kitchen and hallways leading to the bedrooms.   She had us remove this flooring as well and carry the same Travertine tile into the master bedroom, kitchen, and hallways.  The rich, dark mahogany hardwood flooring we installed in the living room and dining room again, provided the sharp contrast in the nuetral earth tone chosen for the walls.  A deep red was selected for the vaulted ceilings furthering the color palette even more.

New Hardwood Floors

We dug further into our resources bringing carpentry to the job site, by installing a wainscoating in the eat-in portion of the kitchen.  The existing wallbase was removed and then bead board panels were installed with new wall base, quater round, and a base cap to top off the wainscoating.  Our highly skilled painters finished off this segment of the job by painting the bead board and new trim in a semi-gloss sheen to match the other existing trim.

Kitchen with Travertine Flooring, New Counter Tops, and Bead Board

The job did not end there; a few more finishing touches were needed.  The kitchen cabinets were adorned with new black solid surface counter tops with bits of granite provide a glimmer of silver in the background.  A backsplash consisting six inch tile and dark metal deco tiles was laid on a diagonal pattern.  The inlay of tile was removed from the fireplace surround and Travertine was also installed.

Kitchen with New Bead Board

Carroll and Mell have been some of our strongest advocates by promoting our services to their family and friends.  Just one more success story to the long list of clients who find that hiring Quinta Contractors, LLC  was one of the best decisions for their home improvement projects.  We have strived for more than a decade to bring quality, custom work to our market place and end every project with a satistfied customer.

Susan’s Kitchen

Susan was ready for an updated kitchen; she contacted Quinta Contractors, LLC with a list of desires for the new design.  The galley style kitchen of her 1950’s home just did not meet her needs and failed to match the rest of the home’s interior which had been improved throughout the years.  She requested a design be drafted for new cabinets, counter tops, flooring, windows, and wall and floor coverings.

What emerged from the design process was breath taking in comparison.  The determination was made that removing an interior wall would leave the seemingly small room with a much larger feel.  Color was the next component used to introduce change.  The existing darker wooden colored linoleum and dark green painted cabinets lead to little distinction; the walls had been painted a lighter more neutral color.  The designer elected to swap this palette completely; the new cabinets were finished with a light to medium tone, the ceramic tile floor utilized lighter earth tones, the walls changed to deep rich red lending to burgundy, and the new vinyl replacement windows were white to match the paint on the new trim.

Pot and pan drawers below the new five burner cook top was a great addition to the convenience factor.  Storage in the remodeled kitchen was greatly increased by the new pantry integrated into the cabinetry.  Frosted glass doors added some depth to the appearance as well.

Other enhancing features in the cabinetry included open shelving and an appliance garage.  An lazy susan was integrated into the two lower corner cabinets.  A pot filler was set into wall and tile back-splash for the cook top.  Finally the stainless steel appliances, brushed nickel cabinet knobs and pulls, and chrome faucet all accented the gray tones in the solid surface counter tops.

Siding in Southaven

House with masonite siding- before

Quinta Contractors, LLC, is licensed in both Tennessee and Mississippi.  We offer all types of home improvements including Premium Vinyl Siding.  The pictures are from a job we did in the Stonehedge subdivision located in Southaven, MS back in 2004.

House prior to vinyl siding

This home had masonite siding applied during new construction.  The existing panel was a smooth 8″ lap with a small bead at the base of each panel.  The look was nice and very distinctive, however as is the case with masonite siding in humid climates- the siding was rotting away right in front of the homeowners eyes.  Year by year they had watched the deterioration increase, since a few years after its construction in 1987.

Vinyl siding was a great solution for this couple.  As in most cases, we applied insulation board directly over the existing siding (You see there is really no reason to remove the existing siding as the rot will cease at the point at which we cover it with the vinyl.  When large scale rot is encountered we simply cut out the bad area and replace with plywood- so as to have an adequate surface to nail the new siding.).  The color they chose for the vinyl siding was Lien for both walls and sofits as their color.  The matching vinyl soffit material we installed had a hidden vent panel which provides a consistent look on all soffits and overhangs; this soffit panel eliminated the look of solid panels being followed by a vented panel every 5 or 6 feet which had been so common in the industry.

Vinyl Siding After

Vinyl Siding After

We wrapped the window and door opening with wood grain vinyl coated aluminum to match the wood grain appearance of the vinyl dutch-lap panels applied to the walls.   When all the trim was added, the nice, crisp lines of the siding and soffit offered a fresh, clean look to the house.  The homeowners were proud of the investment made to improve the aesthetic appeal of the house which offered them the added assurance of being “maintenance free”.

Upstairs Bathroom

Style: what is your style?  When I meet with home owners for the initial consultation on a bathroom or kitchen remodel or to discuss an addition or attic conversion, I pose questions to generate answers defining your style.  I am careful to consider your specific use of the space to be added or improved.  I want to bring as many options to the table as necessary to support your intended function and schemes in home decor.

You may have a flair for a modern or contemporary look.  You may have a strong affinity for more traditional furnishings.  Paying heed to these details, ensures that your style is carried throughout the scope of the new project.  We can select wall coverings that accent your personal preferences.  The bottom-line is that your complete satisfaction is integral to our customer service goals.

Carport Conversions

Carport Before Conversion

A carport is great for sheltering your vehicles from the sun throughout most of the day, however it may leave you and your vehicles susceptible to more than just morning or evening sun exposure.  Most new construction homes this day and time include at least a double garage, but some older homes only have a carport.  Converting an existing carport to an enclosed garage is an affordable way to upgrade your home’s value.

Enclosed garages offer more than shelter from the sun.  They provide ample protection from wind, rain, and snow as well.  Enhanced security is also an advantage from a garage vs. a carport.  Quinta Contractors, LLC makes the conversion process simple while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the homeowner.  Some clients would prefer to have open stud or exposed framing, while others desire to have the interior walls and ceiling finished with sheetrock.  Our carpenters, framers, and sheetrockers are professionals who understand the value of providing quality service for each project we undertake.

Garage After Conversion

The pictures attached with this article depict the before and after of one such conversion performed by Quinta.  The cost of the remodel can at least in part be offset by the increased value added to your home.  The safety and security can prove to be priceless.
