Keep those gutters clean

Gutters are one of those components that easily get overlooked.  That is until, they begin to backup and overflow with heavier rains.  Often times the gutters have some form of guard preventing leaf and trash build up, but even these usually still require some maintenance.

I can tell you that I have seen many a gutter growing “vegetation”.  That’s right enough trash has built up to allow plants and even small trees to grow in the gutters.  When trash is allowed to build up in your gutters you are asking for trouble.  First the flow of water from the roof during a rain shower is affected.  The blockage can quickly move to the downspouts which escalates the problem.  Second the additional weight of the trash, some of which is granules from the asphalt roof shingles, can actually cause the gutters to sag away from the cornice work.  That’s where the real problems begin.  Now you can find water getting into the sub fascia and primary framing to the structure.  The repairs at this point are often very costly.

The good news is with some routine maintenance, you can avoid the damages described above.  You should have the gutters on you home inspected by a professional at least once a year for proper flow.  Most of the time this inspection includes removing any debris retained in the gutters and downspouts and then flushing the same with a stead flow of water to ensure proper drainage.  Your home is one of your best investments; take time to look around today if you spot leaves or debris covering the gutters give Quinta Contractors a call at 901.368.5609 and we will gladly preform these services and much, much more.

minor changes, big results: chapter one

So, everyone is on a budget and sometimes the budget only allows for minor improvements.  What are some ideas that are less expensive than a full-on remodel?  I will use one blog entry a week for the month of September as a chapter to: “Minor Changes, Big Results”.  Homes and their living spaces are as varied as the individuals who own them, but as a starting place, let’s consider flooring.

Replacing the flooring in the entry way can often produce a dramatic change.  The photos below demonstrate just how much difference new flooring alone can make.  A slate 12″x12″ tile was chosen as a replacement for the hardwood.

The tiles were placed on a diagonal pattern to change the look of a standard square pattern.  The new tiles provided the homeowner a varity of colors in the floor covering.  The conversion was astounding, and the owner was tickled with the beautiful transformation to her entry way.

Your Home, Your Style

Options, options, options… that is one thing that takes a little time to sort through when you select Quinta Contractors as your contractor.  Think about though, isn’t that one of the most important aspects of choosing a contractor?  You want someone who will listen to your needs and desires and make plans and take appropriate     action(s) to ensure you are satisfied.  That is what we do: we listen to you.  We know that it is your home and your style.

I constantly strive to remind myself and those who I am fortunate enough to work with that it is your home that we have been entrusted to improve and/or repair, and that fact demands respect.  I focus on our folks staying as organized as possible as we embark on a project at your home.  We intend to keep the job site free of debris and clean.

Style: what is your style?  When I meet with home owners for the initial consultation on a bathroom or kitchen remodel or to discuss an addition or attic conversion, I pose questions to generate answers defining your style.  I am careful to consider your specific use of the space to be added or improved.  I want to bring as many options to the table as necessary to support your intended function and schemes in home decor.

You may have a flair for a modern or contemporary look.  You may have a strong affinity for more traditional furnishings.  Paying heed to these details, ensures that your style is carried throughout the scope of the new project.  We can select wall coverings that accent your personal preferences.  The bottom-line is that your complete satisfaction is integral to our customer service goals.

Vinyl Replacement Window Options

So, you have wood windows that are rotting in place or maybe your current aluminum windows are leaking and drafty.  Choosing the right replacement windows can increase the energy efficiency of your home and cut down on costly utility bills.  Replacing the windows in your home can be a reasonably sized investment and you should consider your options.

I believe that Vinyl Replacement Windows are the best choice for today’s consumers.  Vinyl is a great insulator, better than wood or aluminum. It doesn’t conduct heat or cold like aluminum – a major source of lost heating/cooling energy. Vinyl does not  shrink or swell like wood when the temperatures change.  Additionally, it never needs painting and won’t show scratches, unlike aluminum or wood windows.

The choices in Vinyl Replacement Windows available to home owners today are numerous.  We can provide an energy efficient window which is simply white on the inside and outside, or the windows can be order with two-tone options including wood grain laminates for the interior and several color combinations.  Color matching muttons (or grids) can be selected to provide divided light and may even be etched into the glass (this is a premium option).  The muttons are sandwiched between the two panes of insulated glass to provide one solid surface to clean.

Double-hung Vinyl Replacement Windows have upper and lower tilt-in sashes so you can clean them from inside your home (even those second story windows- no more ladders).  The screens are available in half or full depending on your preference, and these are not your grandfather’s screens.  The Vinyl Replacement Windows sold and professionally installed by Quinta Contractors come standard with reinforced aluminum screen frames which do not easily bend or break.

The Vinyl Replacement Windows we offer come with limited lifetime warranties against chipping, fading, cracking, pealing, and seal-failure (you know that fogginess that shows up between the two panes of glass).  Name the window style and we can match it: double-hung, casement, awning, half-round, trapezoid, just to mention a few.  The frame and sash (the operating portion of the window) can be filled with insulation to meet the demands of even the coldest climates.

The government is offering certain tax incentives to encourage you to replace you windows now.  Our Vinyl Replacement Windows are custom ordered to fit your exact opening.  We take care in ensuring that the opening is sealed around the new window and prefer to wrap the exterior remaining wood with vinyl coated aluminum to complete the project.  Act today before the next inevitable increase in the material price and while the increased tax credits are being offered.  Contact Quinta at (901) 368-5609 to schedule your free estimate.

Kitchen Cabinets

Is your kitchen looking a little dated to you?  Are you tired of the flaws in your builders grade cabinets or have you grown weary of replacing the failing hinges and hardware?  Perhaps you believe there just has to be a more functional layout for your kitchen.  These are all standard reasons given by our clients during the initial interview regarding the  remodeling  of their kitchen.

So, lets focus on one element of the kitchen, granted a big one, kitchen cabinets.  All to often home owners find that the cabinets selected by their home’s builder are just not satisfactory.  The cabinet industry has made many improvements in the last decade or decades (depending on the age of your home).  We now can include options like roll out shelves and drawer units which are large enough for pots and pans, talk about getting organized!

We have the ability now, to add matching end panels whether you choose full over lay or half overlay doors and drawers.  Accent lighting can be integral to the cabinets and even be used behind glass to draw attention to your individual decor.  There are spice racks and appliance garages which can be included in the design.  Wine racks and plate racks  are great as accents to your new cabinetry.

Okay, envisioning  a remodeled kitchen is enticing, but where do you begin?   Contacting Quinta Contractors for an appointment is your best starting place.  We will schedule a time to meet with you (and your spouse) in order to gain critical input for the design of your new kitchen.  The initial consultation takes one to two hours in order for us to gain a proper scope of the work to be completed.

You know you want  it; you just need a plan.  The benefits of using a design/ build firm, such as Quinta Contractors, to provide remodeling services allows you to entrust the process to qualified professionals.  The secondary meeting is comprised of providing  you with a detailed scope of work, 3-D rendering of the new layout for your cabinets, and an estimated cost for the project.  You will have a choice in the species and finish that will adorn your new kitchen cabinets.  The functioning side of the cabinet design also allows you an abundance of options and we will guide you through the process from start to completion.

Quinta installs each set of cabinets with great concern for the details.  After all, the finished appearance of your cabinets will be the cornerstone of your kitchen’s appeal to you, your family, and your friends.  The upgraded quality will  prove to enhance the future selling features of your home.  Why delay, when you could be enjoying the new features and benefits of a remodeled kitchen today.  Give us a call and we will make your dream kitchen a reality!

Building Relationships

Building relationships is a major focus of our customer service goals.  I have numerous examples of how a small project completed led to a respect and trust from the client for Quinta, which in turn encouraged that client to chose us to perform much larger jobs.  A successful remodel requires a consistent, parallelled level of trust between the contractor and the client.

We strive to present the best quality of materials available matched with the best craftsmanship to complete the individual tasks which together make a remodel.  When we undertake a project, we have entered the inner sanctum (if you will) of that client; this is their castle.  I pride myself on encouraging each sub-contractor to treat the home and it’s surroundings with the utmost respect.

We start the process of each major project by interviewing with the client(s) as to their needs and desires. Providing  the client with a reasonable idea as to the feasibility and cost of their desired changes at this stage determines whether or not we move forward.  The next step is returning a budget and a solid scope of work which upon the client’s approval will guide us all in the days to follow.  Keeping the contractor, client(s), and sub-contractors on the same page is essential.  Often times the scope of work dictates that blueprints will be required, especially when an addition is part of the renovation.

I believe that our commitment to customer satisfaction is unparalleled in the industry.  The attitude of flexibility is communicated to all those involved in the process.  The project sometimes lends itself to unscheduled changes at the request of the client, as they see the spaces in their home undergoing the planned transformations.  We are more than willing to accomodate these changes.

I know that the character of the company is revealed as we strive together to bring quick resolutions to each care or concern presented by the client.  Treating you and your home with the due respect is a priority for each of us at Quinta.  You have a choice in contractors and we trust that by choosing Quinta, you will be pleased with the service you receive and your completed renovation now and for years to come.
